Location Selection

The WGD TAR plant is huge! covering ten square city blocks and containing hundreds of buildings. In addition some are multi-leveled and each location can be "fine-grain" tuned down to a unique column-location; which could be thought as being "X-marks the spot."

Some kind of methodology was necessary for being able to not only find the locations in an easy-to-do manner; but search for them as well.

The Location Selection tool fills this need and is a very versatile tool in that it allows several different methods for obtaining the selection of source and destination locations.

A location consists of:

Locations in TAR have a "Common name" that is associated with it; but, additionally the tool provides the ability to create and edit multiple "Custom names" that can be associated with any exact location, as well.

Upon first clicking the "Change" buttons for either the source or destination location selections, from the "Instigate A Move" page, the Location Selection page appears as shown below.

In a nutshell, the Location Selection tool works like this: by pressing the "Begin" button Location Selection is enabled. Upon making a choice from the first combo, the "Location Name Type" combo and then from the "Obtain Location How" combo; the location will be presented to you.

So, let's back up here, and start with the first combo box, the "Location Name Type."

Common And Custom Names

Common And Custom Names

Earlier it was mentioned that each location had a Common name that was given to it upon its establishment. Typically, this is the name that will be used to get a location. However, the ability exists to get a location either from just Common names, Custom names; or possibly from a combination of the two, as will be shown in a moment.

Moving on now to the second combo box, it can be seen that this allows for the method that will be used to perform the location selection. There are three different ones:

So, for each name-type to select from (common, custom or both) there can be one method for obtaining a location: searching or selecting.

It is important to note that "Choose A Location" does not require first selecting a name-type for the location. The reason for this will be shown in a moment, but first let's go through a few of the different options for making a location selection.

Searching by Common Names

Searching by Common Names

Shown above, is searching for a location by a Common name. It could have also been performed using Custom names, if any have been created.

Next, we have selecting a location, first by Common names, then by both Common and Custom names, together:

Lastly, we have the "Choose Location" method; which does not require that a name type first be selected when choosing this method. The reason is that we are selecting by actual physical location, as can be seen here:

It is this method that allows the creation and editing of Custom names.

When a particular location has been established through the selections made in the combo boxes, a grid will display the Custom names (if any) that exist for that location.

It is recommended to change the first entry "None", to the desired Custom name.

There can be multiple Custom names assigned to a location, too.

Creating a new Custom location name is easy: simply click inside the grid and type the name. When finished, either click outside the grid or hit the <ENTER> key on the keyboard.

Similarly, to delete a Custom name: just select the cell and hit the <DELETE> key on the keyboard; it's that easy.

When a location has been decided upon, pressing the "Set Location" button will present the following confirmation:

Location Selection Confirmation

If "OK", the user will be returned to the "Instigate A Move" page with the location populating either the source or destination text boxes; whichever was selected before going in to the "Location Selection" page.
